Who is Quarrydoll?

Phoenix-Blu Coyle, known as Quarrydoll, is a British Fashion Stylist, Creative Director, Film Director and the creator of the ‘Quarry Dolls’.

In the Beginning

I grew up in the North East of England, where it seemed to constantly rain. One could say I spent my former years crucially observing life’s detail, which years later, would manifest via an ongoing series of fashion shoots and films, depicting the imaginary rain sodden world of the ‘Quarry Dolls. I would say the Quarry Doll shoots and commissions are portals into otherworlds, where my obsession for aesthetics, transformation, dolls and cosmetics, create unnerving, thought provoking images that stand out from the mass.

‘Qarrydoll and the Rain Cafe’ story from the rain fashion shoot.

Up in quarry quarters, a gaggle of Quarrydolls, tricked out in coal black latex raincoats, LED brollys and glitter cosmetics, retreat to ‘Rain Cafes’, where they take ‘Silver Needles’ Tea and recharge their mind’s to the sound of rain water, teeming, gushing down the quarry gullies. It is well documented that ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical Serotonin.

‘Not many people have seen Quarry Dolls, but if by chance you do, you will know it, and never forget it, until the day you die!’

Xtreme Models.

Instinctively, from early on, I began casting strangely beautiful, multi-gendered models and directing game-changing makeup artists from the club scene, to play out my leftfield visions. ‘Beauty and Brains are the Holy Grail and using the science of cosmetics, myself and my Quarry Doll team radically transform the Quarry Models into Human Dolls.

Fashion Stylist.

Four years ago, I began styling high end fashion editorials, quickly garnering multiple front cover publications and film nominations. I quickly developed a signature style and became known for styling ‘haute couture off kilter’. The meticulous detail of the looks are often improvised in the moment on set. I became adept at translating briefs and styling a confectionery of all types of shoots from minimal to more complex.

Film Awards.

2016 I was approached by Film Maker, Wolfgang Bolhusch of Vienna, who flew over to film ‘Quarry Doll and the Colour of Magic’ made on zero budget, later astonishingly shortlisted, screened at the prestigious ‘Fashion Film Festival Milano’ alongside high net-worth brands Gucci, Valentino, McQueen and Dior. What an honour, especially when one considers the Multimillion Squillion Billion dollar budgets of these world class brands, meaning, I could be a rather good commodity and investment to a fashion, film production as I have a proven skill for manifesting high-end aesthetics, on inadequate budgets!

British Vogue.

2017 I styled and creatively directed my first Runway Show at the Masonic Lodge of the Freemasons, London. This theatrical fashion show inspired by the 1930’s Art Deco, The Golden Era and inanimate Dolls, was very much lauded and went on to be published the next week in online British Vogue.

Louis Vuitton.

2018 At this point I was garnering multiple requests to style the Final Major Projects of the Met Film School and Central Saint Martins graduates. Thereafter, I was quickly invited by CSM to direct, style and produce a short pilot film to present to Louis Vuitton, which I titled ‘Vuittonia’ inspired by Edith Sitwell, casting a close relative of ex Prime Minister Lord Asquith in the lead role. This high fashion Film about mental health and the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity, attracted excitable attention and film nominations.

Conclusion.
Since starting in the industry in 2016, I have worked with multiple different teams, on numerous Films, Fashion Shoots, Music Vids and Runway Shows interpreting radically diverse themes and briefs. On every project I work closely with the client from concept to completion, meticulously to ensure their vision is exceeded and met with precision.
